Many people don’t realize the county will provide a tax break in the form of an exemption, in regards to their property taxes. That tax break is specifically designed to save you money by lowering the amount of taxes paid simply for LIVING at the property! To be eligible for the homestead exemption one must occupy the property on January 1st of that year.

If you remember from closing on your house the title rep or your real estate agent may have mentioned it to you. I’ve included the form in a link below. Don’t forget to look into the other tax exemptions such as Disabled Veteran, Senior Citizen, Agricultural Exemption, and more!
